Carbon Coder is the ideal desktop transcoder for those tasks that require a high level of manual setup, such as in/out trimming, quality enhancements filters and tuning of the output file. But you have several other options of usage, too.


Two Solutions in One License
Carbon Coder is the typical worker of any Rhozet installation. When you buy a Carbon Coder, you also purchase the option to install and use your license as a Carbon Agent. In other words, you really cannot go wrong with Carbon Coder. Use it as a stand alone transcoder at first and convert to a render Agent if you grow into a farm down the road.

Full-featured API included
Carbon Coder sports a feature-rich Application Programming Interface (API) that enables quick as well as comprehensive integration into larger workflows. With the API it is possible to create a high level of automation in conjunction with other business critical sub-systems in your organization. Decentralized Desktop Transcoding
The cost of high-powered NLE systems has come down in recent years. However, the amount of formats you need to tackle in your business life is going up. In large and diverse organisations, a quick fix that can be implemented and administered without too much bureaucracy is often what is called for. Carbon Coder thrives on any Intel or AMD based Microsoft XP or Vista workstation and will help you deal with your format issues quickly, regardless if they are on your input or output side.

High need of manual intervention - render on farm
You may see all the advantages of Carbon Server and realize that the transcoding needs of your organization surpasses that of what a single node can provide. However, the need for manual tuning may very well still exist. When a Carbon Coder and a Carbon Server exists in the same network, the Carbon Coder can submit a manual job to the farm. That frees up the Carbon Coder right away, and most importantly, you use the right tool for the job in all phases of the trancoding process and ensure that job processing priorities are kept straight.

Ingest from tape
At any point can your Carbon Coder be upgraded to handle analog or digital video and audio input. Since Rhozet is not in the business of hardware transcoders, it is necessary to employ a third party hardware interface to enable the required inputs. While there are several choices, Rhozet recommends a video board from Viewcast, know as the Osprey 530. This board supports component as well as SDI input. Best of all, with the Capture Pack from Rhozet you gain a seemless integration with Carbon Coder with full deck control via RS-232 and RS-422 for quick batching of your tapes. While in ingest mode, Carbon Coder will capture your video source to ANY of the possible output formats in one, smooth process. Dependant on your output codec choice, this process may be realtime or slower than realtime. Carbon Coder has no troubles with asynchronicity in this process, and you are always free to let a Carbon Server handle the output file creation process to free up your ingester quickly.
